People wonder "Where was God when (fill in the blank)?!?!" or "Why did God let _______ happen??"
God is omnipresent. But people do not always ask his opinion before they choose a course of action. Children come from divorced families, wounded, bitter and angry. God is not to blame for their pain. Their parents, one or both of them, did not follow the will of God. They didn't "feel the love" anymore, and chose to break the marital vows they made before God and man, rather than keeping with God's will and weathering the storm. They had the affair despite of and in the face of the will of God.
I don't know why all bad things happen. But i know that God's ways are not our ways, and that every bad thing that happens cannot be blamed on the cosmic hand of our living God. More often than not the pain is self inflicted by human disobedience. It does not even have to be the disobedience of the aflicted party, for sin can leave a legacy, and the effects may last for generations.
I don't know why people die, or get paralyzed, or are have birth defects. But i know that God is perfect. And he doesn't make mistakes.
