animal rescue 911

Friday night I had some mild excitement...

I got home from work at 6 and it was pouring down rain. The rain was making huge puddles to where no one could drive fast on the highway. So anyway i got home and ran inside and nick finally got home from work about 7, and he said there were two little newborn kittens outside and it was so sad b/c they were going to die. So i was disturbed by this and ran outside to save them.

I picked them up and put them on a towel and then the drunk lady upstairs gave me a heating pad for them (she was very concerned, she was crying. i couldn't tell if she was drunk or not, but she was really emotional about it). We brought the wee kitten-fetuses inside and called the animal help line and the told us to make a formula using milk, an egg, vegetable oil and karo syrup. We bottle fed them using the drunk lady's small bottle (who knows why she had one). One of them died. Because he had been lying in a puddle when we found him, he was drowned. He was moving around at first but his mouth was open and his tounge hanging out. These kittens were so small they looked like those nasty hamster babies at the pet store. Their eyes were shut and they still had umbilical cords. So we couldn't exactly give the drowned one CPR. When we pushed on its stomach water came out of its nose.

The living one we took to an Emergency Animal hospital, and they watched him through the night. The next morning, the drunk lady said that she had found the mother. The mother had another living kitten with her, and we found another dead one under the steps. So the drunk lady is keeping them in her apartment and wants us to take care of the kittens after they are weened. I think we will keep the one we 'saved' and give the other away.

I'm glad he didn't die.

What should i name him?
