David and Mary had their baby today. It is a tiny little boy named Barrett. Delivered via emergency c-section because his heart rate dropped. He weighs 5 pounds and some odd ounces. Nick and I went to the hospital to see them. I held him for about thirty minutes and David took our picture with his new digital camera. Barrett was asleep in my arms. Then Mrs. Gramma took him so that mary could nurse him. He started to cry. Babies are so small. Its wonderful. They make you wonder-full. Little bitty finger nails and eyelashes i couldn't even see at first. Tightly closed eyes and a little furrowed forehead. And no eyebrows. New. Half a day old. What does it feel like to be half a day old? It felt sacred to hold something so small and young. Like maybe he was fresh from a conversation with God. Maybe that is why he wanted to keep his eyes closed. So the ugliness of the world couldn't get in yet.
